What is a .A7R file?
The .A7R file extension refers to an Authorware 7 Runtime File. This type of file is created using Authorware 7, a program that was specifically designed for developing educational software applications. The .A7R file contains a packaged version of an .A7P file, which is the project file format used by Authorware 7. However, unlike the .A7P file, the .A7R file does not include the runtime component needed to execute the file independently. This means that the .A7R file cannot run on its own and cannot be edited.
To create an .A7R file, you would use Authorware 7's feature for packaging projects. This is done by selecting the "Publish" option from the "File" menu, then choosing "Package..." from the options. In the packaging process, you have the option to package the file as either an executable (.EXE) file or as an .A7R file. If you choose to create an .A7R file, you must select "Without Runtime" from a dropdown menu during the packaging process. After making this selection, you would then save the file by naming it, choosing where to save it, and clicking the "Save" button.
It's important to note that Adobe, the company that acquired Macromedia (the original creators of Authorware), has discontinued support for Authorware. This means that Adobe Authorware is no longer available for new users, and no further updates or support for the software will be provided. However, if you already have Adobe Authorware installed, you can still use it to open and work with .A7R files. Since the software is discontinued, finding alternative programs that can open .A7R files might be challenging.
