.ALC File Extension

A .ALC file is a Dynamics AX Label Description File, created by Ableton.

Open with Ableton Live. Available for Windows and Mac.

What is a .ALC file?

The .ALC file extension is used for a specific type of audio clip file. These files are created by a program called Ableton Live, which is used for making music and editing audio. When you bring an audio file into Ableton Live and make changes to it, like cutting it shorter or adjusting its parts, the program can save these changes as a .ALC file. This is handy because it lets you keep your custom audio segments for later use.

Not every audio file you work with in Ableton Live will turn into a .ALC file. For instance, if you just import a .WAV audio file and don't change it, Ableton Live will leave it as a .WAV file. But if you do edit that .WAV file, like cropping a part of it and then saving that edited part to your library, Ableton Live will save your edited version as a new .ALC file.

Also, it's worth noting that when Ableton Live makes these .ALC files, it also creates .ASD files. These .ASD files contain information about the audio, like its tempo and where the beats are. This extra step helps Ableton Live work faster and more efficiently with your audio clips.

To open a .ALC file, you'll need to use Ableton Live, as it's the program designed to work with these files.
