.AZ! File Extension

A .AZ! file is a Vuze Partial Download File, created by Vuze.

Open with Vuze. Available for Linux, Windows, and Mac.

What is a .AZ! file?

The file extension .AZ! is associated with Vuze Partial Download Files. These files are created by Vuze, which is a software application used for downloading files through the BitTorrent network, available on multiple operating systems. The .AZ! extension is added to files that are currently being downloaded. For example, if an AVI video file is being downloaded, the file name would appear as ".avi.az!" during the download process.

The purpose of the .AZ! extension is to indicate that the download of the file is still in progress. Once the download is fully completed, Vuze automatically removes the ".az!" extension from the file name, signaling that the file is completely downloaded and ready to be used.

To open a .AZ! file, you need to use the Vuze software. It is the only program that recognizes and processes these files. If you are using Vuze and you see files with the .AZ! extension, it means those files are not yet fully downloaded.

Additional Information: In some versions of Vuze, you have the option to disable the addition of the .AZ! extension to incomplete files. To do this, go to the "Tools" menu, select "Options," then choose the "Files" category. Here, you can uncheck the option labeled "Add suffix to incomplete files." This setting prevents Vuze from marking incomplete files with the .AZ! extension.

It's important to note that when Vuze starts a download, it reserves the entire file size on your disk, even though the content has not yet been fully downloaded. This means the space needed for the file is allocated immediately, ensuring that there is enough disk space to complete the download once all data is received.
