What is a .B01 file?

A .B01 file is a type of computer file used to store a piece of information taken from a CD (Compact Disc). This file is created by a program called BlindWrite, which is used to copy and save the contents of CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs. The .B01 file holds the second part of a bigger set of data that has been copied for keeping a backup. This data can be anything from computer programs to music.

To open a .B01 file, you need to use the BlindWrite software made by VSO Software. Although the newer versions of BlindWrite don't make .B01 files anymore, these files are still around from when older versions of the software were used. If you have a .B01 file, it's likely part of a series of files that also includes a .B00 file, which is the first part, and possibly a .B02 file, which is the third part, all storing different sections of the same CD.

The reason BlindWrite used to split the data from CDs into these files, like .B01, was to make the backup files smaller and easier to handle. Each part of the split data was given a number, starting with B00, then B01, B02, and so on, to keep them in order. But as computers started to have more storage space, the need to split files this way decreased, and eventually, BlindWrite stopped creating these segmented files.
