.CAS File Extension

A .CAS file is a Autodesk Cascade License File, created by Autodesk.

Open with Autodesk AutoCAD 2023. Available for Windows and Mac.

What is a .CAS file?

A .CAS file is a special type of file that helps make sure the Autodesk software you bought, like AutoCAD or Revit, is properly allowed to run on your computer. Think of it as a digital key that says, "Yes, this copy of the software is real and was paid for." These .CAS files are important in places where many computers are connected together (like in an office) and they all use the same Autodesk software. This setup is known as a "cascading" license because the permission to use the software flows down from a central source to each computer on the network.

To open a .CAS file, you would typically use one of Autodesk's programs, such as AutoCAD 2023, Autodesk MEP, Autodesk Revit Structure, Autodesk AutoCAD Architecture, or Autodesk AutoCAD 2023. These programs know how to read the .CAS file and check that the software is legally allowed to run.

The .CAS files are usually named CascadeInfo.cas. However, if your computer turns off suddenly because of a power cut or another issue, these files might get damaged. If that happens, the Autodesk software might not work until the problem is fixed. If you run into this issue, the best thing to do is to get in touch with Autodesk's support team for help.

Normally, you can find the CascadeInfo.cas file in a specific folder on your computer. For Windows Vista or Windows 7 users, it's in C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ADLM\. If you're still using Windows XP, you'll find it in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\ADLM\. And if you're on a macOS, look in /Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Adlm/.config/. Knowing where this file is can be helpful, especially if you need to troubleshoot any issues with your Autodesk software.
