What is a .EVR file?
The .EVR file extension stands for Enhanced Variable Rate Audio File. This type of file is a sound file that has been compressed to make it smaller. The compression uses something called the Enhanced Variable Rate Codec, or EVRC for short. This codec is really good at making speech sounds clear and easy to understand, even though the file is smaller because it doesn't use as much data (this is what we mean by "low bitrate"). Despite using less data, the sound quality is still really good (this is what we mean by "maintaining high fidelity").
You can open .EVR files with a program called RealNetworks RealPlayer, but it has to be version 16 or earlier. RealPlayer is a media player that lets you play various types of audio and video files on your computer.
More about the EVR codec: It's not just for .EVR files. This codec can also be used with other types of audio files, like those in the 3GPP2 (.3G2) format, which is a type of video file format that can contain audio. Some devices made by a company called Qualcomm can use this codec to play sound. So, if you have a .EVR file or a compatible audio file and you want to listen to it, you can use RealPlayer (as long as it's version 16 or earlier) to open and play the file on your computer.
