What is a .FHD file?

The file extension .FHD stands for FreeHand Drawing File. This type of file is a vector-based image format that was originally created using FreeHand software. FreeHand was a popular application designed for making detailed illustrations and designing page layouts. The content in a .FHD file includes vector graphics, which are made up of lines and shapes known as paths. These paths can be used to create simple geometric shapes or more complex designs that incorporate three-dimensional visual effects. This format is particularly useful for creating detailed storyboards and documents that span multiple pages.

To open a .FHD file, you would traditionally use the FreeHand program. However, FreeHand was developed by a company called Macromedia, which was acquired by Adobe in 2005. Following this acquisition, Adobe decided to discontinue the development of FreeHand. As a result, Adobe no longer supports the FreeHand software directly. Instead, Adobe recommends using Adobe Illustrator, another vector-based illustration program, to work with files that were originally created in FreeHand. Adobe Illustrator can open and handle .FHD files, allowing users to access and edit their FreeHand drawings using a modern and supported software environment.
