What is a .FVT file?
An FVT file is a type of video file that was created using a special technology called Fast Search & Transfer (FAST). This technology was made in 1997 to help videos compress (which means to make the file size smaller) and stream (or play without downloading the whole thing first) better. The video in an FVT file is squished down using a special method that only FAST uses, and the sound is made smaller with something called Linear predictive coding (LPC). People used FVT files to watch live videos without any delays over wireless internet and to play videos on their computers or phones whenever they wanted.
However, finding a program that can open FVT files today is hard because no well-known programs support them anymore. Back when these files were popular, you could watch them using a special player made by FAST that worked in some internet browsers. This player was a Java applet, which is a small program that runs inside a web browser to do specific tasks, like playing FVT videos. There was also a player for a system called EPOC, which was the name for an operating system before it changed to Symbian OS in 1998. Symbian OS was used in many smartphones before smartphones as we know them today.
It's important to note that the company behind FAST and the FVT file format, FAST Search & Transfer ASA, was bought by Microsoft in 2008. Microsoft used FAST's technology for something completely different - to help businesses search through their documents and data very quickly. Because of this change and advancements in technology, FVT files aren't used anymore. So, if you come across an FVT file, you might find it very difficult to play or use it with modern software.
