.GPK File Extension

A .GPK file is a WaveLab Audio Peak File, created by Steinberg.

Open with Steinberg WaveLab. Available for Windows.

What is a .GPK file?

The .GPK file extension refers to a WaveLab Audio Peak File. This type of file is used by WaveLab, an audio editing program. The .GPK file contains a summary of the sound wave data from an audio file. This summary helps WaveLab to load audio files more quickly because it doesn't have to reprocess the entire sound wave data each time the file is opened.

When you open an audio file in WaveLab, a .GPK file is automatically created. This file stores information that allows the program to quickly display the audio's waveform when you reopen the file, making the editing process faster and more efficient.

The primary program that uses the .GPK file is Steinberg WaveLab. To open a .GPK file, you simply need to open the corresponding audio file in WaveLab, and the program will utilize the .GPK file to load the audio data quickly.

Additional Information: By default, WaveLab keeps the .GPK files even after the audio files are closed. This default setting can be changed if you prefer to have WaveLab automatically delete the .GPK files when you close the corresponding audio file. To change this setting, go to the menu in WaveLab and select "Options," then "Preferences," and finally "File." In this menu, you can choose the option to "Delete peak files when closing audio files." This setting helps manage disk space by removing unnecessary .GPK files once they are no longer needed.
