What is a .HID2 file?

The .HID2 file extension is associated with a type of security file used by the KeepSafe application, which is available on both Android and iOS devices. KeepSafe is an app designed to protect your privacy by hiding personal images and videos on your mobile device. Files saved with the .HID2 extension are typically photos or videos that have been made private through the app.

When you use KeepSafe to hide a photo or video, the app modifies the file's name. It starts by adding a long sequence of random numbers to the beginning of the original filename. Then, it appends ".HID2" at the end of the file name. This process changes the appearance and format of the file, making it unrecognizable to other applications on your device. For example, a file originally named "IMG_1549.JPG" might be renamed to something like "1543305784357378655.IMG_1549.JPG.HID2" after being processed by KeepSafe.

The addition of the .HID2 extension serves a crucial purpose: it prevents the file from being displayed or accessed by standard photo or video apps, ensuring the content remains hidden unless accessed through KeepSafe. To view or manage these hidden files, you must use the KeepSafe Private Photo Vault app on iOS or the KeepSafe Vault app on Android, and you will typically need to enter a pin or a security pattern.

It's important to note that the .HID2 file extension was replaced by the .KSD extension in 2013. This means that newer versions of KeepSafe may use the .KSD extension instead of .HID2 for hiding files. However, older files or versions of the app might still use the .HID2 extension.
