What is a .HXK file?
The .HXK file is a type of file that helps organize information in a specific way for Microsoft Help 2.x projects. Think of it like a guide that tells a program how to sort and display help topics so people can find the answers they need more easily. These files are especially useful for creating lists of keywords, making help topics pop up based on what you're doing in the program (this is called context-sensitive help), and organizing other types of help information that are bundled together in what's called a .HXS file.
To open and work with .HXK files, you would typically use a program called Innovasys HelpStudio. This program is designed to help create and manage these kinds of help files. Also, if you have an older version of Microsoft's Visual Studio, specifically the 2005 or 2008 versions, you can use those to work with .HXK files too. These versions of Visual Studio used Microsoft Help 2.x as their main way of showing help to users. However, it's important to note that starting with Visual Studio 2010, Microsoft moved on to a new system for help files and stopped supporting the Microsoft Help 2.x format, including .HXK files. So, if you're using a more recent version of Visual Studio, it won't be able to open or work with .HXK files directly.
