Open with ScummVM. Available for Linux, Windows, and Mac.

What is a .ITK file?

The .ITK file extension is used for a special type of data file that works with ScummVM, which stands for "Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion Virtual Machine." ScummVM is a program designed to let people play old adventure games on modern computers. These old games are often not directly compatible with new computer systems, so ScummVM helps by acting like an old computer inside your current one, allowing these classic games to run.

The .ITK files are created by taking the original game files, which the games were made with, and changing them into a new format that ScummVM can understand and use. This process is called reverse engineering. Because of this, the .ITK files contain important game data like the video clips (movies) or the spoken lines (speech) that you see and hear while playing the game. This data is saved in a special format that only ScummVM can read and play.

These files can vary in size quite a bit. Some might be quite small, only a few megabytes, which is about the size of a few songs. Others can be much larger, up to several hundred megabytes, which could be as big as an entire movie or a large software program.

To open and use .ITK files, you need to have ScummVM installed on your computer. Once you have ScummVM, you can load these .ITK files into the program, and it will use them to run the game they belong to. This way, you can enjoy old adventure games that might otherwise be unplayable on your computer.
