.OCA File Extension

A .OCA file is a Custom Control Library Type File, created by Microsoft.

Open with Microsoft Visual Studio+. Available for Windows.

What is a .OCA file?

The .OCA file extension is associated with a type of file known as a Custom Control Library Type File. These files are closely related to Visual Basic, a programming language developed by Microsoft. When you create a custom control in Visual Basic, which is saved with the .OCX file extension, an accompanying .OCA file is also created. This .OCA file contains important information about the custom control, including descriptions of the objects, properties, and methods that the control uses. This information is used by something called OLE Automation, which helps different software applications share information.

The .OCA file is automatically generated by Visual Basic and will have the same name as the custom control file, but with the .OCA extension instead of .OCX. For example, if your custom control file is named "MyControl.ocx," the accompanying file would be named "MyControl.oca." One of the main programs that can open and work with .OCA files is Microsoft Visual Studio, a popular development environment for creating applications.

It's important to know that .OCA files are binary files, which means they are not meant to be edited or viewed directly by users. They act as both extended type libraries, providing additional information about the custom control, and as a cache for the OCX files, helping to speed up the loading process of these controls.

If for some reason an .OCA file is deleted, it's not the end of the world. Visual Basic can rebuild the file, but it will take some extra time to do so. This is because Visual Basic will need to regenerate all the information that was previously stored in the .OCA file.
