What is a .P4D file?

A .P4D file is a type of file that is made by a program called Pix4Dmapper Pro. This program is special because it can take lots of pictures and use them to make 2D maps and 3D models of places. Think of it like turning a bunch of photos into a mini-world you can explore on your computer.

Inside a .P4D file, you'll find a lot of different things. It has the pictures that were used, the layout of where everything is (called coordinate systems), choices made on how to process the images, special points on the ground that help make the map or model more accurate (these are called ground control points or GCPs), and other important details about the project.

These .P4D files are saved in a way that computers can read easily, using something called XML format. This is a common way to store data so that both humans and computers can understand it.

If you want to open a .P4D file, you need to use Pix4Dmapper Pro, the program that created it. This program knows exactly how to read all the information stored in the .P4D file and can show you the maps and models that were made from the pictures.
