.PTX File Extension

A .PTX file is a Pentax RAW Image File, created by Avid Technology.

Open with Avid Pro Tools. Available for Windows and Mac.

What is a .PTX file?

The .PTX file extension is used for a type of file known as a Pentax RAW Image File. However, it is also associated with Pro Tools 10, a digital audio workstation (DAW) software. In the context of Pro Tools, the .PTX file is a session file format that includes various types of data such as audio, MIDI, and software instrument tracks. It also contains information about effects, mixing settings, and other edits made during the creation of music or sound projects.

The .PTX file does not store the actual audio files. Instead, it keeps references to these audio files, which means it points to the locations of the audio files on your computer or storage device but does not contain the audio data itself.

To open a .PTX file, you can use the program Avid Pro Tools. It's important to note that earlier versions of Pro Tools, specifically versions 7 to 9, use a different format called .PTF and cannot open .PTX files directly. However, if you are using Pro Tools 10 or later, you can convert a .PTX file to the older .PTF format. This conversion can be done through the "Save Session Copy" dialog in Pro Tools. Keep in mind that when converting to the older .PTF format, some features from Pro Tools 10, like clip gain settings, might not be retained in the converted file.
