What is a .RTI file?
The .RTI file extension stands for Real Tracker Instrument. This type of file contains an instrument, or what you might think of as a "voice," that can be used in music creation software. Specifically, it is designed to be played back in a program called Real Tracker. Real Tracker is a sound tracking program, which means it's used to create and edit music.
If you have a .RTI file, you can open it using Real Tracker. Additionally, there's another program called Raster Music Tracker that can also work with .RTI files. In Raster Music Tracker, if you want to load an .RTI file, you would go to the menu, select "Instrument," then choose "Load" and follow the prompts to add the instrument to your project. If you're creating music and want to save a particular sound you've made as an .RTI file, you would go to "Instrument" in the menu, then select "Save actual instrument as..." to save your creation.
Raster Music Tracker is especially interesting because it allows Windows users to recreate the sounds of the Atari POKEY sound chip. This chip was used in the late 1970s and 1980s in Atari 8-bit home computers and some arcade games, giving them their distinctive sounds.
