What is a .THM file?
A .THM file is a small image file, kind of like a tiny picture, that represents a larger image or video. Think of it as a preview or a mini-version of a bigger picture or video clip. This type of file is called a Generic Thumbnail Image. It's especially used by older Sony Ericsson mobile phones to change how the phone's menus and screens look. This includes changing the colors of windows and texts, the icons you see, the background picture, and other images on the phone. To make or change these .THM files, there was a special free program called Sony Ericsson Themes Creator. However, it's important to know that this program isn't being updated anymore.
Besides being used for phone themes, .THM files are also created by digital cameras and camcorders. When you take a video, the camera makes a .THM file as a small preview image of that video. This helps you recognize the video easily without having to play it. If you transfer your videos to a computer, these .THM files come along with them. Each .THM file has the same name as the video it represents but ends in .thm instead of the video's file extension. For example, if you have a video named "holiday.avi," the thumbnail image created for it would be named "holiday.thm."
