What is a .TX_ file?

A .TX_ file is a type of file that is a smaller version of a regular text file, which ends in .TXT. This smaller version is made by squishing the .TXT file so it can fit into less space, kind of like when you pack a suitcase and push down on your clothes to make them fit better. This is really useful when you want to put the file on a CD because it means you can fit more stuff on the CD.

The tool that usually does this squishing job is called Makecab, and it's something that comes with Windows computers. Makecab can also make .CAB files, which are like big boxes that can hold a bunch of squished files together.

If you have a .TX_ file and you want to open it to see what's inside or use the information, you need a special tool because just clicking on it won't work. For Windows users, there's a tool called Microsoft Expand. However, it's important to know that Microsoft isn't making updates for Microsoft Expand anymore, but it should still be on your computer if you have Windows.

To make a .TX_ file go back to a regular .TXT file that you can open and read easily, you can tell your computer to do that with a special command. You open the command prompt and type something like "expand myfile.tx_ myfile.txt". This is like telling your computer, "Hey, take this squished file and make it normal again." It's also good to know that this squishing and expanding trick isn't just for text files. There are other types of files that can be squished and have an underscore at the end, like .EX_ for executable files, .DL_ for DLL files, and .SY_ for system files.
