What is a .3GPP file?
A .3GPP file is a type of video and audio file that is made using a special format created by a group called the 3rd Generation Partnership Project. This format is special because it was designed to make it easy to send videos over the internet and to save videos on mobile phones that use 3G technology. Even though it was made for 3G phones, you can also play these files on some 2G and 4G phones.
The .3GPP file can hold both video and audio data. The video part is usually in a format called H.263 or H.264, and the audio can be in several formats like AMR-WB or AAC-LC, among others. These technical terms just refer to the different ways the sound and picture are stored in the file.
You can open .3GPP files with various programs on your computer or mobile device. Some of the programs that can open these files include: - VideoLAN VLC media player: A free program that can play many types of video and audio files. - Microsoft Media Player: This comes with Windows, so if you have a Windows computer, you might already have this. - Apple QuickTime Player: If you're using a Mac, this program can open .3GPP files and it might already be on your computer. - MPlayer: Another free program that can play lots of different media types. - Roxio Creator NXT Pro 9 and Roxio Toast 20: These are programs you can buy that do a lot more than just play videos. They can help you create and edit them too. - Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate and Wondershare Video Converter Pro for Web: These programs can convert .3GPP files into other formats. - Google Drive: You can even play .3GPP files directly in your web browser with Google Drive. - On mobile devices, apps like olimsoft OPlayer for iOS and PANDORA.TV KMPlayer for Android can play these files.
Even though .3GPP files are still used, some newer mobile devices don't use this format anymore because there are now more efficient ways to store and play videos. However, .3GPP files are still pretty common, especially for older videos or on devices that don't need the latest technology.
