What is a .AES file?
An .AES file is a type of file that has been locked using a special program called AES Crypt. This program is like a digital lockbox that keeps files safe using a method called AES encryption. This method is very strong, using a 256-bit encryption algorithm, which is like a very complicated puzzle that needs a password to solve. To open an .AES file and see what's inside, you need the exact password that was used to lock it.
People use AES Crypt to keep important files, like personal or business documents, safe. For example, if someone has a document they want to send over email without anyone else being able to read it, they can use AES Crypt to encrypt it. When AES Crypt encrypts a file, it adds ".aes" to the end of the file's name. So, if you have a file named "report.pdf" and you encrypt it, it becomes "report.pdf.aes". To get back to the original "report.pdf", you need to open the ".aes" file with AES Crypt and enter the right password.
To open an .AES file, you can use a program called Packetizer AES Crypt. This program knows how to handle the encryption and will ask for the password. Once you enter the correct password, it will unlock the file, turning it back into its original form so you can use it as before.
