.AVE File Extension

A .AVE file is a Avid User File, created by Avid Technology.

Open with Avid Media Composer. Available for Windows and Mac.

What is a .AVE file?

The .AVE file extension refers to an Avid User File, which is a settings file primarily used by video editing software from Avid, such as Avid Media Composer and the now-discontinued Avid Xpress. These files are important because they contain user-specific settings, allowing different users to save their personal preferences related to the software. Typically, an .AVE file is saved alongside a project's .AVS settings file.

To open an .AVE file, you would generally use Avid Media Composer. Although Avid Xpress could also open these files, it is important to note that Avid Xpress has been discontinued.

In addition to its use in Avid software, the .AVE file extension is also associated with the Avigilon Control Center Player. This player uses .AVE files to store and display video recordings. When you open an .AVE file in this player, the video from the file is shown immediately. If the .AVE file contains videos from multiple cameras, each video stream is displayed by default. Users can close any video stream they do not wish to view by right-clicking on the video panel and selecting "Close" or by clicking the "X" icon within the panel.

Furthermore, the Avigilon Control Center Player allows for the export of video. To do this, you would select the "Export" icon in the "Export" tab, choose your desired format from the "Format" dropdown menu, select the specific camera video, set the time range, adjust any necessary options, and then click "Start Export." Available export formats include the native .AVE format, as well as .AVI, .WAV, .PDF, .JPEG, .PNG, and .TIFF.

The Avigilon Control Center Player is part of the Avigilon Control Center Client software package, which can be downloaded from the Avigilon website.

Note: In this context, "AVE" stands for Avigilon Native Video Export, indicating its specific use in the Avigilon software for exporting video files.
