What is a .BMML file?
A .BMML file is a type of file used by a program called Balsamiq Mockups, which is a tool for creating the initial designs of user interfaces and websites, known as mockups. These mockups help visualize how a website or an app will look before it is fully developed. The content inside a BMML file is written in a markup language similar to XML, which Balsamiq Mockups uses to display the design elements like buttons, text fields, images, and other components typically found on a webpage or an app interface.
Originally, Balsamiq Mockups used .XML files for storing these designs. In the second version of the software, they introduced BMML files, which are essentially XML files but with a .bmml extension. This means they are specially formatted for use in Balsamiq Mockups to create and manage mockups more efficiently.
However, with the release of Balsamiq Mockups 3, the software moved from using BMML files to a new format called BMPR, which is saved in a binary format rather than text format. This change was made to improve the performance and capabilities of the software. Despite this change, you can still import your old BMML files into the newer versions of Balsamiq Mockups. To do this, you would go to the "Project" menu and select "Import." To open a BMML file, you will need to use Balsamiq Mockups. This program is specifically designed to work with BMML files and allows you to view and edit the mockups contained within these files.
