What is a .BP file?

A .BP file is a type of file that can be used in two different ways. Firstly, it is known as a Boomplay Music File, which is related to the Boomplay music streaming service. Boomplay focuses on providing African and international music to its users. You can download the Boomplay app on both Android and iOS devices. When you use Boomplay to download music for offline listening, the files are saved with a .BP extension. These BP files are specially encoded so that they can only be played within the Boomplay app itself. This means you can't play these music files on other music players or transfer them to your personal music library.

Secondly, the .BP file extension is also used for a completely different purpose in the Spaceflight Simulator game. In this context, a BP file is a rocket blueprint file. It is a plain text file that contains JSON data, which describes the construction of a rocket or a part of a rocket. If you're playing Spaceflight Simulator and you want to use a specific rocket blueprint, you can do so by placing the BP file into the game's ~/Saving/Blueprints folder. This allows you to load and use the rocket design within the game.

To open a .BP file, the method depends on what the file is used for. If it's a Boomplay Music File, you can only open it using the Boomplay app on an Android or iOS device. If it's a Spaceflight Simulator rocket blueprint file, you can open it with any text editor like Vim, since it's a plain text file. However, to actually use the blueprint in Spaceflight Simulator, you need to place the file in the correct folder as mentioned above. Additionally, there are enhanced versions of Spaceflight Simulator for both iOS and Android, known as Spaceflight Simulator+, which also support the use of .BP files for rocket blueprints.
