.CREC File Extension

A .CREC file is a Lync Video File, created by Microsoft.

Open with Microsoft Lync 2010 (Discontinued). Available for Windows.

What is a .CREC file?

A .CREC file is a type of video file specifically created by a program called Microsoft Lync, which was designed for business use, facilitating instant messaging and video conferencing. The .CREC file stores video content that was recorded during online video meetings, allowing users to play back these recordings later.

To open a .CREC file, you would traditionally use Microsoft Lync 2010. However, it's important to note that Microsoft Lync 2010 has been discontinued. This means that the software is no longer updated or supported by Microsoft. In the past, these .CREC files were commonly used with the 2010 version of Lync, but starting from Lync 2013, the program began using the more standard .MP4 file format for video recordings.

If you still have access to Microsoft Lync 2010 and need to view recordings saved as .CREC files, it is recommended to convert these files into .WMV format. This conversion makes the videos more accessible and easier to play on a variety of media players.

It's also worth mentioning that Microsoft Lync itself was eventually replaced by a new application called Microsoft Skype for Business. This newer platform continues to support business communication features like video conferencing but does not use the .CREC file format.
