What is a .CRYPTRA file?
The .CRYPTRA file extension is associated with a type of file known as a Cryptra Encrypted File. This file is created using Cryptra, a software program designed to protect data, especially when sending it via email. The content within a .CRYPTRA file is secured using a special encryption method called One Time Pad (OTP). Each OTP key is unique and is provided on a CD or as an .ISO image file when you purchase the Cryptra software.
To open a .CRYPTRA file, you need to use the BMB Software Cryptra program. This is the only software capable of decrypting the encrypted file correctly. It's important to note that to decrypt a .CRYPTRA file, both the sender and the receiver must have the Cryptra software installed on their computers. Additionally, they must both possess the exact same OTP CD that was originally used to encrypt the file. This ensures that the decryption process can be successfully completed.
Each OTP CD that comes with the Cryptra software can be used to encrypt up to 9,600 files, with each file having a maximum size of 64KB. If you need to encrypt larger files, you can do so by combining multiple OTP keys. However, each OTP key should only be used once to maintain the security of the encryption.
BMB Software also offers a service to provide users with additional OTP CDs, ensuring that they can continue to securely encrypt new files as needed. This service is crucial because once an OTP key is used, it should not be reused for another file. This unique usage of OTP keys helps in maintaining the high security level of the encrypted files.
