What is a .EDE file?
An EDE file is a special type of computer file that is used with a piece of music equipment called the Ensoniq Performance Sampler (EPS). The EPS was one of the first tools used to make digital music. This file contains a copy of what was on a floppy disk used with the EPS. It includes sounds, settings for those sounds, effects (like reverb or echo), or backup files. These files are organized in a specific way, with small blocks of data (512 bytes each) arranged in 160 circles or "tracks" like on a record.
To open an EDE file on a computer running Windows, you can use a program called Chicken Systems Ensoniq Disk Tools. This program lets you see and use the contents of the EDE file, just like if you were using the original floppy disk on the EPS.
