What is a .FES file?
The .FES file extension is used for a special kind of file known as a Fileless Occurrence Placeholder. This type of file is created by a program called 3D Topicscape. 3D Topicscape is a tool that helps you organize your information in a visual, three-dimensional way, making it easier to manage complex projects or ideas.
Here's how the .FES file works: Sometimes, in 3D Topicscape, you might want to make a note or a reminder that doesn't actually have a file attached to it—this is called a "fileless occurrence." When you decide to move your work from 3D Topicscape to your Windows computer, these fileless occurrences are exported as .FES files. The reason for this is to keep track of these occurrences even outside of Topicscape.
The cool thing about .FES files is that they allow for what's called a "round-trip." This means you can take your files and notes from Topicscape, export them to work on them in another program or environment, and then bring them back into Topicscape with all your changes intact. The .FES files help Topicscape remember where these fileless notes belong in your 3D Topicscape structure, even though they don't contain traditional file data.
To open a .FES file, you will need to use the 3D Topicscape software. This program recognizes the .FES extension and knows how to handle these placeholder files, ensuring that your fileless occurrences are correctly managed when you re-import them into Topicscape.
