What is a .GDCB file?
A .GDCB file is a type of file that has been locked by a harmful computer program called the GandCrab virus. This virus acts like a digital kidnapper for your computer's files. It sneaks into your computer, then finds and locks various types of your files, such as documents (.PDF) or videos (.WMV), by scrambling their contents using a special code called the Salsa20 algorithm. This means you can't open or use these files anymore because they have been changed to .GDCB files. This problem started happening a lot in January 2018.
The main goal of the GandCrab virus is to force you to pay money to get your files back. It does this by first messing up your files, then creating a .TXT file with instructions (named GDCB-DECRYPT.txt) on how you can pay the criminals (usually with a digital currency called DASH) to unlock your files.
To deal with this issue, there are a couple of tools you can use. One is the Bitdefender GandCrab Decrypt Tool, which is a special program designed to unlock your files without having to pay the ransom. Another method is using System Restore, a feature on your computer that can take your system back in time to a point before the virus attacked. This might help restore your files to their original state, but it's not always guaranteed to work for everyone or for all files affected by the GandCrab virus.
