What is a .GHS file?
A .GHS file is a part of a larger picture of a computer's disk, like a piece of a puzzle, made using a program called Norton Ghost. Imagine you want to take a complete snapshot of everything on your computer's hard drive—your programs, your documents, everything—so you can restore it later if something goes wrong. Norton Ghost does this, but if the snapshot is too big, it cuts it into smaller pieces for easier handling. These pieces are the .GHS files. They usually come with a bunch of other .GHS files and a special .GHO file. The .GHO file is like the cover page of a book; it starts the story of your disk snapshot.
To open or work with these .GHS files, you need the Symantec Ghost Solution Suite software. This program knows how to take all those pieces—the .GHS files—and put them back together along with the .GHO file to restore your computer's disk to the way it was when the snapshot was taken.
