What is a .GOOD file?
A file that ends with .good is a file that has been locked by a bad computer program called Scatter ransomware. This could happen to any type of file you have, like a letter you wrote, a video you made, a picture you took, or anything else. The .good part is added to the end of your file's name, so if you had a video called "mybirthday.mp4", it would change to "mybirthday.mp4.good" after the ransomware attacks it. When this happens, you can't open or use your file because it's been scrambled up.
Scatter ransomware sneaks into your computer when you accidentally open a bad email attachment. This attachment has a hidden program that, once activated, locks your files by scrambling them and then asks you to pay money to unscramble them. It changes your files by adding .good, .crypt, or .pzdc at the end of their names. It also leaves a note telling you to pay money to get your files back.
But, you don't have to pay the money. There's a special tool called Kaspersky ScatterDecryptor that can unscramble your files for free. This tool is made by a company called Kaspersky, and it's designed to fight against this bad ransomware. So, if your files ever get locked by Scatter ransomware, remember that you can use this tool to get them back without paying any ransom. It's always a good idea not to pay because paying doesn't guarantee your files will be unlocked and it encourages the bad guys to keep doing this to more people.
