What is a .H2W file?
An H2W file is a type of data file used specifically by two computer programs called H2testw and F3. These programs are designed to check USB drives and SD cards. They help to test how well these devices work and confirm if their storage capacity is accurate as claimed. The H2W file stores information that these programs create during their tests. It is saved directly onto the USB drive or SD card that is being checked.
The H2W file helps in testing the ability of the drive to save and read data (read and write functionality). When you use H2testw or F3, these files are created on the drive. If multiple tests are run, you might see several H2W files, like 1.h2w, 2.h2w, and so on. Each file created by H2testw is usually 1 gigabyte (GB) in size, and they continue to be created until the drive or card is full. F3 works similarly, but it will keep creating 1GB files until the space is almost full, with the last file possibly being smaller than 1GB.
To open or use an H2W file, you would typically need to use either the H2testw or F3 programs. These are the programs that can read the data stored in these files and provide you with information about the performance of your USB drive or SD card.
Here’s how you can use these programs: - For H2testw: After inserting your USB drive or SD card into your computer, launch H2testw, select the drive you want to test, choose how much data you want to write to the drive, and then start the "Write + Verify" process. The program will write data to the drive, then read it back to check for errors, and finally report the results including the speed of the drive. - For F3: Similar to H2testw, you insert the drive, open F3, and follow the instructions to write and verify data on the drive.
H2testw was originally created by Harald Bögeholz and is available in German and English. It is free to use but only works on Windows computers. F3, on the other hand, is an open-source program developed as an alternative to H2testw and can be used on Windows, macOS, and Linux systems.
