What is a .H4E file?
A .H4E file is a special type of file used by musicians who use the Line 6 POD HD400 Edit software. This software helps musicians change the sound of their instruments by adjusting various settings. The .H4E file saves these adjustments so they can be used again later. These adjustments include things like how much distortion (drive) the sound has, the low (bass) and high (treble) tones, how fast an effect like tremolo goes (speed), and how loud the instrument is (channel volume). The settings in the file are organized into different groups like "FX" for effects, "AMP" for amplifier settings, "REVERB" for echo effects, and "GATE" for noise control.
To make a .H4E file, you use the Line 6 POD HD400 Edit program to change your settings. Once you're happy with the sound, you go to the File menu, choose "Save As...," give your file a name, pick where you want to save it, and then click "Save." If you want to open a .H4E file later to use those settings again, you just need to double-click the file or open it through the program's File menu.
For Windows users, when you save a .H4E file, it usually goes into a folder called My Documents/Line 6/Tones/POD HD400 Edit. If you're using a Mac, it goes into /Documents/Line 6/Tones/POD HD400 Edit.
It's important to note that the .H4E file extension was replaced by .H5E with the release of POD HD500 Edit, a newer version of the software. However, if you're still using the POD HD400 Edit, you'll be working with .H4E files.
