What is a .HID file?
The .HID file extension is associated with a security file used by the KeepSafe application, which is available on both Android and iOS devices. KeepSafe is an app designed to protect and hide personal media such as images and videos. When a user chooses to hide a file using KeepSafe, the app modifies the file's name by adding a random numerical string at the beginning and appending the .HID extension at the end. This process helps to disguise the file, making it unrecognizable to other applications on the device, thereby enhancing privacy.
For example, if you have an image file named "IMG_11429.JPG" and you decide to hide it using KeepSafe, the app might rename it to something like "8945715774357453030.IMG_11429.JPG.HID". Here, "8945715774357453030" is a randomly generated string of numbers, and ".HID" is the new file extension added by KeepSafe. This renaming and extension change prevents the file from being displayed or accessed by standard gallery or media apps.
To view or manage files with the .HID extension, you need to use the KeepSafe Private Photo Vault+ app on iOS or the KeepSafe Vault app on Android. These apps require the correct pin or access control set by the user to open and view the hidden files.
It's important to note that the .HID extension was replaced by the .KSD extension in 2013. Therefore, newer versions of KeepSafe may use the .KSD extension for hiding files instead of .HID.
