What is a .HIGHLAND file?
A .HIGHLAND file is a type of document specifically created by a program called Highland, which is designed to run on macOS computers. Highland is primarily used for screenwriting, but it is versatile and supports various types of writing formats. The content inside a .HIGHLAND file can be formatted to suit different writing needs, such as screenplays for movies, stage plays for theater, graphic novels, manuscripts for books, novels, speeches, bulletins, articles, treatments (which are summaries of projects), or reports formatted according to MLA (Modern Language Association) guidelines.
To view or edit a .HIGHLAND file, you need to use the Highland software, specifically the version known as Quote-Unquote Apps Highland+. This version of Highland provides tools and features that help writers organize and format their documents according to the specific requirements of their writing projects. Since .HIGHLAND files are proprietary to the Highland program, they cannot be opened by standard text editing applications without converting them to a different format first.
