What is a .ICBU file?
The .ICBU file is a type of file known as a Calendar Backup File. It is made by a program called Calendar, which is a part of the Mac OS X operating system for Apple computers. This program helps you keep track of important dates, meetings, and events. The .ICBU file is like a safety copy of all the information you have in your Calendar. If something goes wrong and you lose your calendar data, you can use this backup file to get all your information back.
To make a .ICBU file, you go into the Calendar program, click on "File" at the top of the screen, then choose "Export..." and after that, select "Calendar Archive...". What happens next is that the program creates a special folder that ends with ".icbu". Inside this folder, there are smaller folders for each of your calendars and files ending in .ICS which have all the details of your calendar events.
When you want to use your backup file to restore your calendar, the Calendar program will replace all the calendar information you currently have with the information from the backup. The program will ask you if it's okay to do this before it starts, so you don't lose anything by accident.
To open a .ICBU file, you just need the Apple Calendar program, which comes with the Mac OS X operating system. This means if you have a Mac, you should already have everything you need to open and use these files.
It's important to know that the name of the Calendar program used to be Apple iCal, but it was changed to Apple Calendar in 2012 when a new version of the Mac operating system, called OS X Mountain Lion, was released.
