What is a .JOZ file?
A .JOZ file is a type of file used with Java OpenStreetMap, specifically for saving sessions in the JOSM (Java OpenStreetMap Editor) program. Essentially, it's a package that includes all the information from a mapping session. Inside, it's structured like a .ZIP file, meaning it's a compressed folder that contains other files. These include a .JOS file, which holds session metadata, and various directories that store .OSM files, which are the actual map data layers.
To view or use a .JOZ file, you can open it with the Java OpenStreetMap Editor, commonly known as JOSM. This program will recognize the file and display the map layers that were saved in the session. Alternatively, since a .JOZ file is essentially a .ZIP file, you can also open it with any program that can handle ZIP files. This allows you to see and extract the contents, but to properly use the map data, you should use it within JOSM.
Programs that can open a .JOZ file include: - Java OpenStreetMap Editor (JOSM), which is specifically designed for editing and managing OpenStreetMap data. - Any standard ZIP file decompression utility, like WinRAR, 7-Zip, or the built-in ZIP handling features in many operating systems, can open the file to view or extract the contents, but won't manage the map data as JOSM does.
