What is a .JQZ file?
A .JQZ file is a type of file known as a JQuiz File. It is created using a program called Hot Potatoes. This program is special because it lets people make interactive online activities. One of the things you can create with Hot Potatoes is a quiz. The quizzes you make can have different kinds of questions, like multiple choice (where you pick the right answer from a few options) or short answer (where you type in your answer).
To open a .JQZ file, you need to use the Hot Potatoes program. Specifically, you would use the version called Half-Baked Hot Potatoes. This version of the program is the one that works with .JQZ files and helps you either make or view the quizzes.
Hot Potatoes isn't just for quizzes, though. It can also be used to create other fun learning activities. These include fill-in-the-blank exercises, sentences that you have to put in the right order, and crossword puzzles. Each type of activity you create with Hot Potatoes is saved as a different kind of file, which means they have different extensions at the end of the file name, like .JQZ for quizzes.
The Hot Potatoes software was made by a team at the University of Victoria in Canada. Even though they stopped updating the software in 2009, you can still download and use it for free. This is great for teachers or anyone else interested in creating interactive learning activities to share on the internet.
