What is a .K3Y file?
A .K3Y file is a special kind of password file that is used by a program called USB Raptor. USB Raptor is a tool that people can use on their computers to make sure their computer is locked and can only be unlocked with a USB drive that has this .K3Y file on it. Think of it like a key to your house, but instead of unlocking a door, it unlocks your computer.
The .K3Y file contains secret code (encrypted text) that only USB Raptor can understand. When you plug the USB drive into your computer, USB Raptor checks to see if this .K3Y file is there. If it finds the file, it knows you are the computer's owner and unlocks the computer for you. If the file isn't there, because maybe you forgot your USB drive, the computer stays locked.
To make a .K3Y file, you use USB Raptor. There's a part of the program called "Unlock file settings" where you can press a button to create a new .K3Y file. This file then gets saved onto your USB drive. You can also tell USB Raptor to only unlock your computer if it sees your specific USB drive, by using something called the USB drive's serial number. This way, even if someone else made a .K3Y file, they couldn't unlock your computer with a different USB drive.
So, to open or use a .K3Y file, you really just need USB Raptor and the USB drive that the .K3Y file is saved on. Plug the drive into your computer, and if everything is set up right, USB Raptor will read the .K3Y file and unlock your computer for you.
