What is a .KV6 file?
A .KV6 file is a type of 3D model file specifically used in video games that run on Ken Silverman's Voxlap engine. This file format, known as Ken's Voxlap 6 Model File, was created by Ken Silverman, a notable game programmer. The .KV6 file contains detailed information about 3D models used in the game, including their textures and shapes. These models can represent various objects within the game, such as weapons, characters, or parts of the environment.
Ken Silverman, the developer behind the .KV6 file format, is also known for creating the Build engine in the 1990s, which powered famous games like Duke Nukem 3D. He started working on the Voxlap engine around the year 2000 and made its source code available in 2005. The term "Voxlap" comes from "voxel," a concept in 3D graphics which represents a value on a grid in three-dimensional space, essentially a 3D version of a pixel.
One of the games that initially used the Voxlap engine was an early version of Ace of Spades, a game that combines elements of Minecraft's building mechanics with the action of a first-person shooter. However, Ace of Spades later switched to using an OpenGL-based engine in 2012.
To open and edit .KV6 files, you can use a program called Slab6. This software is specifically designed to handle files in the .KV6 format, allowing users to modify or create new 3D models for use in games that support the Voxlap engine.
