What is a .KYS file?
A .KYS file is a type of file used by Adobe Photoshop, which is a sophisticated program for editing graphics. This file stores custom keyboard shortcuts that a user has set up in Photoshop. Keyboard shortcuts are combinations of keys that you press to quickly access various functions and menu options in the program, making your workflow more efficient.
The .KYS file allows these personalized shortcuts to be saved and then loaded back into Photoshop, even if the program is reinstalled or used on a different computer. This means you don't have to manually set up your shortcuts again, saving time and effort.
You can create and manage these .KYS files through a specific area in Photoshop called the Keyboard Shortcuts & Menus window. This window is accessed by going to the top menu in Photoshop and selecting Window, then Workspace, and finally Keyboard Shortcuts & Menus.
For example, in Photoshop, pressing Cmd-Shift-N might be set to create a new layer, and Cmd-Opt-I could open the image resizing window. You can also assign shortcuts to functions that don’t have them by default, like opening the Brightness/Contrast adjustment window, and you can change existing shortcuts to suit your preferences.
Besides Adobe Photoshop, .KYS files are also compatible with Adobe Illustrator, another graphic design software by Adobe. This means the same keyboard shortcuts file can be used across both applications if needed.
To open a .KYS file, you will need to use Adobe Photoshop 2023 or Adobe Illustrator 2023. These programs allow you to load, edit, or save your keyboard shortcut configurations using the .KYS file format.
