What is a .LQT file?
The file extension .LQT represents a Liquid Audio File, which is a type of music file. This file is stored in a special, proprietary format that includes copy protection measures to prevent unauthorized use and distribution. Because of its proprietary nature, .LQT files can only be opened and played on specific software that is authorized to handle its security features.
The primary programs capable of opening .LQT files are Liquid Player and RealPlayer, specifically versions that include the Liquid Audio plugin. These versions include RealNetworks RealPlayer 20/20 and RealNetworks RealPlayer Cloud, both of which must have the Liquid Audio plugin installed to play .LQT files.
It's important to note that the .LQT format is somewhat outdated. Liquid Audio, the company originally behind the .LQT format, was acquired by Anderson Media and became Liquid Digital Media in January 2003. Following this acquisition, the focus shifted away from the .LQT file format towards other solutions for delivering media over the Internet. As a result, the .LQT file format is no longer actively used in new applications. However, if you have older .LQT files, you can still use the aforementioned software to open and play them on computers that are authorized to do so.
