What is a .LVIX file?
The .LVIX file extension stands for a Lightworks Video Index File. This type of file is associated with Lightworks, a software application designed for editing videos. When you use Lightworks to edit videos, it creates an .LVIX file to store important information about the video and audio components of media files, specifically those in .MP4 and .MOV formats. This information helps Lightworks manage and streamline the video editing process.
The .LVIX file contains metadata, which includes details like the length of the video, the format, and other data that Lightworks uses to efficiently handle video editing tasks. This file is crucial for Lightworks as it refers to this metadata to enhance the editing workflow, making the process smoother and faster.
When you import a video into Lightworks, the software automatically generates an .LVIX file. This file is saved in the "Material" folder within the Lightworks directory. It is named after the original video file but with the .lvix extension added at the end. For example, if you import a video named "example.mp4" into Lightworks, the .LVIX file will be named "example.mp4.lvix".
To open an .LVIX file, you need to use EditShare Lightworks, as it is specifically designed to work with this file type. Other programs typically cannot open or process .LVIX files because they contain specialized data meant for use within Lightworks.
Note: There is a similar file type known as .VIX, which is used for .MTS media files in Lightworks. Like .LVIX files, .VIX files store metadata about video and audio content but are tailored for a different format.
