What is a .MSMPL_BANK file?
A .MSMPL_BANK file is a type of data file specifically used with the Korg microSAMPLER keyboard and the accompanying Korg microSAMPLER Editor/Librarian software. This file contains a sound bank for the keyboard, which is essentially a collection of all the audio samples, rhythmic patterns, tempo settings, and effects parameters that define how an instrument sounds and behaves. These files are crucial for musicians who want to save and transfer their custom sounds and settings between different microSAMPLER keyboards or to and from a computer.
To manage these .MSMPL_BANK files, you would use the Korg microSAMPLER Editor/Librarian software. This program allows you to create, open, and transfer the sound banks. If you're looking to create a new .MSMPL_BANK file, you would go to the "File" menu in the software, and choose "Save" or "Save As..." depending on whether you are saving a new file or updating an existing one. To open an existing file, you would select "Open..." from the same menu.
It's important to note that each .MSMPL_BANK file can only contain one sound bank. However, the microSAMPLER keyboard itself can hold up to eight sound banks in its internal storage. If you need to back up or transfer all the sound banks from the keyboard, you would save them in an .MSMPL_ALL file, which is capable of storing all eight banks together.
This setup is particularly useful for musicians who perform live or work in multiple studio environments, as it allows them to easily carry and load their unique sounds wherever they go.
