What is a .N file?

A .N file is a type of computer file known as a Neko Bytecode File. It is created by a program called Neko, which is a special tool used to work with a programming language named .NEKO. When people write programs in the .NEKO language, they use Neko to turn their written code into a special format called "bytecode." This bytecode format is important because it allows the program to be run on different types of computers such as Macs, Windows PCs, and Linux computers. This is possible through something called the Neko virtual machine (VM), which is a program that can understand and execute the bytecode.

To make it simpler, you can think of the Neko VM as being similar to a game console, and the .N files as the game cartridges. Just like how a game console can play a game cartridge, the Neko VM can "play" or run the .N files. This is somewhat like how Java works, where Java code is turned into bytecode that can run on the Java virtual machine (JVM), making it work on many different computers.

The programs that can open and work with .N files are all versions of Neko itself. So, if you have a .N file that you want to run or check, you would use the Neko program to do so.

It's also interesting to note that .N files aren't only created from .NEKO programming language. They can also be made from other similar languages, like Haxe, which means that Neko is quite versatile in working with different kinds of code to produce these runnable bytecode files.
