What is a .NGC file?
The .NGC file extension is associated with a type of data file used in electronic circuit design, specifically with the NeoGeo Pocket Color ROM. These files are created by a program called Xilinx ISE, which is a tool used by engineers and designers to create and test the designs of electronic circuits. The .NGC file contains important information called a "netlist." This netlist has all the details about the logical design of the circuit and any rules or limitations that need to be followed. Essentially, it's a blueprint of the circuit that has been put together, or "synthesized," and it's ready to be moved to the next steps in the design process, such as turning it into .NGD and .BIT files.
To open and work with .NGC files, you would use the Xilinx ISE Design Suite. This suite includes a specific application known as Xilinx Synthesis Technology (XST), which is the tool that takes designs written in special programming languages for hardware, like Verilog (.V files) or VHDL (.VHD files), and turns them into the .NGC files. These programming languages allow designers to describe how they want the electronic circuit to work, and then XST helps translate that into a format (the .NGC file) that the Xilinx ISE suite can use to further develop and eventually implement the design into actual hardware.
