What is a .NOT file?
A .NOT file is a type of file called a Notation File. It's like a digital music sheet that holds information about how a piece of music should be played. This includes both the musical notes you see on a score and the performance details that a computer or digital instrument needs to play the music, known as MIDI data. MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface and is a standard way of making electronic musical instruments, computers, and other devices talk to each other to play music.
These .NOT files are made in a special format that only certain programs can understand. Two examples of software that can open these files are Notation Musician and Notation Composer. These programs are designed to work with .NOT files, letting you see the music score and hear how it's supposed to sound.
If you want to use the music in your .NOT file with other music software, you can convert it into more common formats like .MID (a standard MIDI file) or .KAR (a type of MIDI file used for karaoke), after you've opened it in either Notation Musician or Notation Composer.
Additionally, .NOT files can be used as templates for creating new songs. By saving a .NOT file in the "Template" directory within the Notation software's program files, you can quickly start new projects based on the template's settings and arrangements, making it easier to compose new pieces of music without starting from scratch.
