.NSR File Extension

A .NSR file is a Nessus Security Report File, created by Tenable Network Security.

Open with Tenable Network Security Nessus. Available for Linux, Windows, and Mac.

What is a .NSR file?

The file extension .NSR stands for Nessus Security Report File. This type of file is a text report created by the Nessus program, which is a tool used for checking vulnerabilities in networks. When Nessus performs a security scan on a network, it generates this report to summarize the findings. The .NSR file includes important details about the security scan but is less detailed compared to another file type called .NBE.

The .NSR file is primarily used for reviewing and auditing network security to identify potential vulnerabilities and security risks. However, it's important to note that the .NSR format is now considered outdated and has been replaced by the .NESSUS format, which is used for similar purposes but in a more updated and comprehensive manner.

To open a .NSR file, you would typically use the Nessus software from Tenable Network Security. This is the same program that generates these files. Since the .NSR format is deprecated, it's recommended to use the latest version of Nessus, which utilizes the .NESSUS format for security reports. If you have older .NSR files, Nessus should still be able to open them, but for ongoing and future scans, the reports will be in the .NESSUS format.
