What is a .NV file?
The .NV file is a type of database file used by a program called NewViews for DOS, also known as NV1. This program is designed for managing business finances and was made for computers that run DOS, an older operating system. The .NV file can contain a lot of different financial information like how much money a company has spent (expenses), how much money it has made (income), details about employee pay (payroll), taxes, and more. It's a way for businesses to keep track of all their financial activities.
To open an .NV file, you would use the program called Q.W. Page NewViews for DOS. This is the same program that creates these files.
There's also a way to update these .NV files to a newer version called .NV2. This is done using a part of the NewViews for DOS program called NVEXPORT. NVEXPORT is a special tool that helps you convert your old .NV files into the new .NV2 format. Once converted, these files can be opened with a newer version of the software called NewViews 2, but only the first time you open NewViews 2.
It's interesting to note that NewViews for DOS has been around since 1986 and even won an award from PC Magazine for Technical Excellence that year. Despite being quite old, some organizations still use it, especially if they haven't moved to the newer Windows version, NewViews 2 (NV2).
