What is a .NWCAB file?
An .NWCAB file is a special kind of file used by a program called Neat 5, which helps people organize their digital documents like scanned papers, contact information, and receipts. Think of an NWCAB file as a big digital filing cabinet where Neat 5 keeps everything organized in one place. When you start using Neat for the first time, it automatically makes one of these cabinet files for you.
To open an .NWCAB file, you need to use the Neat program. This is the main software that knows how to handle these cabinet files properly.
Usually, you won't see the .NWCAB file unless you're looking through the Neat Data folder, which is typically found in your Documents folder on your computer. Alongside the .NWCAB file, there are usually two other types of files in the Neat Data folder. Both of these have the extension ".nwdb" and include a Neatworks file, which helps manage your documents, and an image file, which stores pictures of your scanned documents.
If you ever try to open your Neat database and get an error message, it might mean there's a problem with one of the files in your Neat Data folder. This could be because a file is damaged, being used by another program at the same time, or it's missing. To fix this, make sure all three files (the .NWCAB file and the two .nwdb files) are in the Neat Data folder. If one is missing, that's likely causing the error message.
Also, if you ever need to share what's in your .NWCAB file with someone else, Neat allows you to export the contents into an .NDX file, which is another type of file that can be more easily shared.
