What is a .NWDB file?
An NWDB file is a special type of file used by a program called Neat 5, which helps people organize their digital documents like scanned papers, business cards, and receipts. When you use Neat 5 to scan a document, it saves the information in an NWDB file. This file is like a box where Neat keeps all the scanned images and information you've collected.
To look at or use the contents of an NWDB file, you can open it with a few different programs. The main program is Neat, which is specifically designed for these files. However, you can also use Microsoft SQL Server 2019 or Microsoft Visual Studio 2022 and newer versions. These programs can open NWDB files because they understand the special way the information is stored inside them.
If you're trying to find your NWDB files, you'll usually find them in a folder called Neat Data, which is inside your Documents folder on your computer. Inside the Neat Data folder, you should see at least three important files: one that helps Neat work properly (Neatworks NWDB file), one that contains images (image NWDB file), and one that acts like a filing cabinet to organize everything (cabinet NWCAB file).
Sometimes, you might try to open your Neat database and get an error message. This could happen if one of the files is missing, another program is using it, or if something went wrong and the file got damaged. If you get an error, check to make sure all three files are in the Neat Data folder because if even one is missing, it can cause problems.
It's interesting to note that NWDB files are actually a type of database file known as SQL Server Compact Edition (SQLCE) database, but with a different ending (.nwdb instead of .sdf). This means that any program that can open .SDF files should also be able to open NWDB files.
